Because you may remember how much I love the Rock Hall. I hear The Stooges are up for a nomination again this year; funny how I stopped caring and I'm sure they never did in the first place, as Iggy illustrates from last year...

Are. They. Serious?
Well slap my ass and call me Charlie! Please read in full and contact your council people, or better yet, go out and TP their houses tonight. This is RETARDED.

Cleveland's A Slum
The evening of November 14th is shaping up and going to be a blast. Most importantly is the All Things Cleveland show @ Asterisk Gallery. Already preparations for the show are having some funny speed bumps. You may have seen the Cleveland - logo in anticipation for this group show, well, from the gallery owner:
"for now please use the ' Cleveland's a Slum' logo or any of the images that I have attached for the press release if you forward the info. I received a cease and desist letter from The Greater Cleveland partnership/CLE+ lawyer on Monday, stating I must immediatley discontinue using the CLE- mark. I contacted a friend that happens to be a corporate copyright lawyer downtown and he is going to take care of it. There is a parody defense that I am protected under as well as other free speech issues. So please use the plum image for now until I have this resolved by mid-week."
Classic. Especially considering the first line in the press release:
"If you cannot laugh at yourself, you cannot laugh at all. Just think of the overwhelming cabbage smell of grandma’s house, the Big Chuck and Little John show on a black and white television with tinfoil on the antenna, etc. The work exhibited is produced solely by Cleveland artists to emit that bleak perspective of a Clevelander. This exhibition will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The object was to produce an exhibition that promotes a self deprecating view of Cleveland by Clevelanders. The work must represent or depict Cleveland in some way, shape, or form. Think more of a less positive Harvey Pekarian viewpoint, burnt perogies, , the continual grief and despair we feel each and every day, the adverse effect our sports teams have on our mental state, our bleak and depressing outlook on life, etc, etc, all the good things.
The opening reception will be complete with a live polka style performance covering all the great Cleveland inspired hits like – Bernie, Bernie, Cleveland Rocks, The Heart of Rock n Roll, etc. Sauerkraut and kielbasa will be available and will be slow cooked overnight to give the gallery that special sensory smell we are all accustomed to being from Cleveland. Opening Reception - Friday, Nov 14th., 6-10pm. Show runs through Dec. 6th"
If that wasn't enough, later in the evening after 10pm, head over to Now That's Class for the Pink Eye Magazine issue 2 release party and cheap-ass art sale. Located at 11213 Detroit Ave. bands playing will be Hot Cha Cha, Mystery of Two, Dimeras + Artist Flea Market! There will be quality art donated by incredible local artists. All work is available for under $20! It is $5 at the door. This is a fundraiser to help cover the magazine print costs, this is DIY baby.

At Ingenuity Festival
AllGoSigns is doing it up again...

and next door to AllGoSigns on the festival campus will be Bazaar Bizarre, which will be outdoors this time around.
At least for every lame event, there is a good one to cancel it out at this years festival. I notice the Ingenuity website is still missing some events, but at least it gives you an idea www.IngenuityCleveland.com

Stuff and Things
Hi Fructose Magazine knows what's going on. Last issue had a piece on Scott Radke, and now this coming issue has one on Amy Casey who's stuff I love. Hi Fructose is awesome in that it is much like Juxtapoz but without all the noise -- you know what I mean. You might find a few little images by yours truly in the back-issues too.
The weekend leading up to Easter has some stuff I've marked on my calendar:
Friday the 21st at MOCA, you can catch Parts and Labor along with Ryan from Paik opening. I thought it was going to be just Paik but I guess they made some changes. That'll be $6 smackers, unless you are a MOCA member, then it is free.
Saturday the 22nd is the Munny show at Shoparooni of course.
Other than that, if you are an artist or business in the Cleveland area with some cool swag, C-Space is gearing up for their benefit auction. You can contact kate@clevelandspace.org for more info. Deadline is May 30th.

Rock Hall, you crack me up at times
This has nothing to do with art per se, but one of my favorite bands from my home town of Ann Arbor, The Stooges, are playing tonight on the VH1 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee ceremony show. I find it funny that they are playing the same night that Madonna is getting inducted -- how annoying really.
I have to say that even though the Rock Hall has some cool stuff, I really don't hold out any hope on the new plan to have the ceremony actually held in Cleveland on a bi-yearly basis. In fact, I'm waiting to see just how bad it gets screwed up. I mean, these are the same people that said hosting CMJ was too much work for them and they bagged it only after 2 years. Yeah, they can have music festivals in the middle of the desert and make it huge, yet having a music festival take place at the Rock Hall is just too over their heads. An annual music festival with national/international cachet could have been really good for Cleveland and yet they pulled the plug before it had the chance to get rolling; bad organization, bad marketing, and overall crappy line-ups with a few quality acts sprinkled on top. The whole thing made me wonder if any advance research or planning went into it at all. God forbid they hire extra help to run the festival or pay good people with experience to guide them in the planning stages. Well, that's a non-profit organization for you isn't it?
But I do have a funny story about The Stooges and the Rock Hall. Not long ago, a copy of Rolling Stone was banned at my husband's office, in part, due to a photo of Iggy Pop and his bare butt. Seems it was sexual harassment! You can read all about it here. Later, the company has their holiday party, at the Rock Hall. So not only does this company ban Rolling Stone from the office and then decide to have a function at the Rock Hall, they put in a dress code on top of it. How rock n' roll they must have felt! So my husband wears his mod suit...with a Stooges button to accent it.
"Is there an exhibit in particular you were looking to see?" asks a docent during the party. "Yeah, where's The Stooges exhibit?" he asks in front of some HR people. They totally didn't get it, or see the hypocrisy in any of this. The office voted him best-dressed man at the party on top of it.
