Devo, Dunnies, and Delicate Vases

@ Asterisk Gallery works by "KRK RYDEN a DEVO inspired exhibition"
Friday, Aug. 29th 6-11pm Show runs through Sept. 10th

You may remember the Mark Mothersbaugh show that came through Asterisk last year, it was affiliated with KRK Ryden. Well now, he has his own show! KRK Ryden is known for his pop art inspired and comic book-like imagery, and while he and his brother -- Mark Ryden -- share a love of all things cartoon and surreal, KRK has a worldview that is strictly DEVO. For over thirty years KRK hasbeen creating illustrations and paintings for underground bands, publishers, and institutions. In addition, in the lower gallery is Jocko Dome-o, a charitable event in which professional andup-and-coming artists from around the country have been invited tocreatively alter their own Energy Dome—the classic headgear made famousby new wave band DEVO, and featured in their 1980 music video ‘Whip It.’

The Munny Show @ Shoparooni

Yesterday was the Munny show at Shoparooni. I had yet another birthday party to attend so I could only drop by a little before the actual judging began -- I'm sure the final prize winners will be posted on the Shoparooni website because so many were pouring in that I probably should have taken more photos of. (Wtf, why are all my friends cramping my art farting outings these days? Stop getting old you bastards! Oh who am I kidding, if I wasn't an alcohol enthusiast I'd be agoraphobic at this point in my life and never go out at all.) Anywhoo, here are some photos...

This was my favorite!

Some kids getting in on the contest
Hmmm, kinda reminds me of "Piss Christ"
Rancid!
And holy crap look at that, I was so inspired I got myself a Munny! No not this kind, but you get the idea. No idea what I'll do with him, but stay tuned. And yes, they'll be doing this again in November if you feel inspired too!
